For a while now I’ve been wanting to work on my typography skills, or lack there of, and I’ve set out to learn as much as I can in the last few months. I’ve purchased some excellent books and read a ton online but I haven’t really had any projects to practice on lately. And like they say, practice makes perfect. So I figured I would just do a few personal projects that allowed me to work on my typography as well as my design skills. Then I can post the results on my blog as a way to record my progress as well as receive any comments or criticisms.
I thought I would combine typography with something else I loved so that the projects would be fun to work on even if I wasn’t happen with the end result. With that in mind I settled on movies and more specifically movie quotes. So, without further ado, here is my first effort.
1 COMMENTI recently finished reading Logo Design Love by David Airey. I really enjoyed the book and found David’s writing style entertaining while educational at the same time. He has a great deal of knowledge on the subject of identity packages and logo creation. While I did enjoy the book it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. I was looking for more of a step by step guide to creating logos. Obviously the process of creating a logo is drastically different from project to project but I thought this book would include a more specific guide to the process of logo development.
Don’t get me wrong, the book does help describe the overall process of designing a logo but just falls short of what I was hoping for. Even so, I don’t regret purchasing the book one bit. It has given me multiple ways of thinking about logo design that never would have crossed my mind before. I think this books helps more with the preparation of deigning a logo and dealing with clients more than anything. If you get a chance to pick it up I definitely recommend it.
NO COMMENTSWell, if you haven’t figured it out yet this is another attempt of mine to have a blog. Just a place to put my general thoughts and things I’ve come across or learned. Maybe it’ll turn into something bigger and better but as Dr. Leo Marvin says, it’s all about “Baby Steps”.
